Elizabeth Warren contradicted herself when she said that she’s “still with Bernie” on Medicare for All despite promises that her plan does not raise taxes on the middle class, a key difference from the Sanders plan.

"I’m still with Bernie. We’re still there on Medicare for All,"  Warren told Zak Hudak, a CBS News reporter on Sunday.

Even Bernie Sanders, who “wrote the damn bill,” as he likes to say, admits that middle class taxes would go up under Medicare for All.

"Yeah, [we'd have to] raise taxes on the middle class," Sanders told a CNN reporter after the July debate.

Previously, Warren said in a campaign video that her plan “doesn’t raise middle class taxes by one penny.”

Joe Biden responded to this claim during an NPR interview, stating that “you're going to have to raise taxes on the middle class.

During an Iowa campaign event, he also said that Warren’s plan will require tax increases.

"It’s going to cost a lot of money and she's going to raise people's taxes doing it,”Biden said.

Biden even told Sanders and Warren to “get realistic” with their spending proposals during a CNN interview and said that Warren is “making it up” when promising no middle class tax increases.

Some experts say that there’s “no question” Medicare for All hit the middle class.

As the Washington Post reported, Kenneth Thorpe, chairman of the health policy department at Emory University directly said that the plan will hit the middle class. “There’s no question it hits the middle class,” he said.

Two Year TCJA Anniversary: Media Calls Out Dems For Lying About Trump Tax Cuts

As the two year anniversary of the Tax Cuts of Jobs Act approaches on Dec. 22, it is important to highlight the various times that the media has had to correct 2020 Democrats for lying about them.

When Joe Biden claimed that “All of [the TCJA] went to folks at the top and corporations," he got the dreaded Four-Pinocchios from the Washington Post.

But the biggest problem is Biden’s sweeping declaration that “all of it went to folks at the top and corporations that pay no taxes. That’s simply wrong.” Glenn Kessler wrote.

In its fact check, the Washington Post stated: “Most Americans received a tax cut.”

The New York Times also flatly stated: "Most people got a tax cut."

CNN's Jake Tapper did his own fact check and concluded: "The facts are, most Americans got a tax cut."

CNN's Tapper also stated: "In fact, estimates from both sides of the political spectrum show that the majority of people in the United States of America did receive a tax cut."

FactCheck.org stated: "Most people got some kind of tax cut in 2018 as a result of the law."

FactCheck.org also stated: "The vast majority (82 percent) of middle-income earners — those with income between about $49,000 and $86,000 — received a tax cut that averaged about $1,050.

H&R Block: “The vast majority of people did get a tax cut.”

Under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, middle class Americans are raking in the benefits:

Mayor Pete’s “Carbon Tax and Dividend” Will Raise Taxes on Social Security Recipients

Pete Buttigieg repeated his call for a “carbon tax and dividend” at the Democratic debate in Los Angeles on Thursday night during the PBS/Politico Democratic debate.

And it’s why I insist we act with a carbon tax and dividend with massive increases in renewable research on renewable energy storage and carbon storage,” Buttigieg said.

Buttigieg's carbon tax plan is a large, continually ratcheting national energy tax, which would allows congress to raise taxes automatically each year without having to vote. It would require a large bureaucracy to implement and run.

Most devastating for voters, however, is that it will impose severe tax increases on Social Security recipients.

Because the Buttigieg carbon tax would significantly increase household costs -- cooling and heating, transportation, groceries, etc. -- the bill directs the federal government to send payments to households in an attempt to compensate for the increased cost burden.

But these payments, called "dividends" by Buttigieg -- are subject to federal income tax. The tax will not only siphon money from households to be sent to Washington -- it will also impact Social Security benefits.

report published by the pro-carbon tax Citizens' Climate Lobby acknowledges the following:

"Taxability of Dividends raises three separate issues: (i) additional complexity for taxpayers; (ii) the equity of the disparate effective marginal tax rates on taxable Dividends for various residents; and (iii) the method or methods by which those taxes would be paid."

Regarding Social Security recipients, the report states:

"Over the income-related phase-in range for the taxation of social security benefits, each additional $1.00 of non-social security income causes an additional $0.50 or $0.85 of social security benefits to become taxable. In most situations, the ordinary income tax rate in the phase-in range is 10 percent; however, at some income levels, the rate is 12 percent. Thus, $1.00 of non-social security income -- including income from the Dividend -- will be taxed at effective marginal rates of 15 percent, 18 percent, or 22.2 percent."

The report gives an example of how the tax would hit a typical couple over age 65 with an income of $38,000 and a Social Security benefit of $12,000:

"Based on that income, the tax rate schedule shows that their marginal tax rate would be 10 percent. However, the addition of $1,584 of taxable Dividends from the Carbon Fee causes more of their social security benefits to become taxable, and their marginal tax rate due to the Dividends is 20.12 percent, so that after paying their income tax, the couple is left with only 79.88 percent of their gross Dividend."

Citizens' Climate Lobby was caught on tape admitting carbon tax cost and complexity is "something that we at CCL can tend to soft-pedal."

It's no wonder 75 conservative groups wrote a letter to congress stating: "We oppose any carbon tax."

Booker Praises Opportunity Zones While Planning to Repeal TCJA Which Created Them

Cory Booker said during a presidential forum on Dec. 6 that the Opportunity Zones created by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act are “benefiting mayors” and that it helps “do development the right way,” all while he is proposing to repeal the TCJA.

Here’s something that we got done in a quiet way that is benefiting mayors. And I know there are a lot of folks who are attacking [Opportunity Zones] right now, but when I was a mayor, if I had this as a tool in my toolbox and I know my current mayor does, we can do development the right way, and it’s called Opportunity Zones,” Booker said at the Local America Presidential Forum.

Booker went on to tell the audience how the Opportunity Zones are helping communities around the country, but there’s one big issue: He wants to repeal the legislation that created them. Booker was an original co-sponsor of the Opportunity Zones legislation before it was added to the TCJA.

On multiple occasions, Booker has said he would “reverse” the tax cuts if elected.

"My Plan would reverse those toxic Trump tax cuts," Booker said during a CNN interview on Sept. 18.

Similarly, Pete Buttigieg also praised TCJA’s Opportunity Zones, saying that the possibilities that exist with them are “inherent,” and even placed two of his South Bend, Indiana campaign offices, Including his headquarters. He also wants to repeal the Trump GOP tax cuts.

“As we further experiment with new ideas and refine our approach to economic development, we hope other cities can learn from ideas that have succeeded in South Bend, and vice versa. Now – perhaps more than ever – cities have to lead for their own people, and have to engage with each other to create progress at scale. The end result, we believe, will be a faster and more inclusive pattern of growth and, yes, opportunity for all South Bend residents,” he also said.

Then-Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris had her campaign headquarters located in an Opportunity Zone, as well. The campaign told The Baltimore Sun in May that the headquarters would be moved to an Opportunity Zone:

The campaign said the permanent site will be located in an“opportunity zone.” That federal program — part of a 2017 tax reform law -- is designed to attract billions of dollars of private investment and government resources to distressed communities around the nation."

Booker's promise to repeal the tax cuts is also a promise to raise taxes. If the tax cuts were repealed:

  • A family of four earning the median income of $73,000 would see a $2,000 tax increase.
  • A single parent (with one child) making $41,000 would see a$1,300 tax increase.
  • Millions of low and middle income households would be stuck paying the Obamacare individual mandate tax.
  • Utility bills would go up in all 50 states as a direct result of the corporate income tax increase.
  • Small employers will face a tax increase due to the repeal of the 20% deduction for small business income.
  • The USA would have the highest corporate income tax rate in the developed world.
  • Taxes would rise in every state and every congressional district.
  • The Death Tax would ensnare more families and businesses.
  • The AMT would snap back to hit millions of households.
  • Millions of households would see their child tax credit cut in half.
  • Millions of households would see their standard deduction cut in half, adding to their tax complexity as they are forced to itemize their deductions and deal with the shoebox full of receipts on top of the refrigerator.

Big Trump Rally in Battle Creek tonight as the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act celebrates second anniversary

Today President Trump will be hosting a rally in Battle Creek, Michigan.  Michigan residents are raking in the benefits of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, signed into law by Trump.

Take Action: Thank you President Trump for signing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) into law!

On Dec. 22, 2017 Trump signed the tax cuts into law. Thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act:

Tax cut: Every income group in every Michigan congressional district saw a tax cut.

Doubled child tax credit: 647,610 Michigan households are benefiting from the TCJA’s doubling of the child tax credit.

Standard deduction: 3,463,240 Michigan households are benefiting from the TCJA’s doubling of the standard deduction.

Obamacare individual mandate tax relief: 147,340 Michigan households are benefiting from the TCJA’s elimination of the Obamacare individual mandate tax. Most households hit with this tax made less than $50,000 per year.

Lower utility bills: As a direct result of the TCJA’s corporate rate cut, Michiganders are paying lower utility bills. Lower electric, water, and gas bills help households each month, and also help small businesses operating on slim profit margins. Michigan examples of utilities passing on tax savings to customers include – but are not limited to:

Thanks to the TCJA’s corporate tax rate cut – from 35 percent to 21 percent – and the TCJA’s 20 percent tax cut for small businesses, employers of all sizes are hiring, expanding, increasing pay and benefits, and paying special tax-cut bonuses:

The Mitten Brewing Company (Grand Rapids, Michigan) -- Because of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the Michigan Brewery was able to produce new beer, perform new research, hire new employees, give employees pay raises and bonuses:

"It literally put money back into our pockets that we were spending before. We had been producing a bunch of new beers that we have been able to research and develop, and we’ve retained key employees, by giving them bonuses, raises, bringing in new employees," said Max Trierweiler, co-owner of The Mitten Brewing Company.” – Oct. 7, 2019 WZZM13 Article

SpartanNash (Grand Rapids, Michigan) – Bonuses and pay increases:

A locally based grocery store chain plans to re-invest half of its savings from federal tax reform into employee compensation and one of its brands.

David Staples, the CEO of Byron Center-based SpartanNash, which is also a food distributor, said in a conference call to investors yesterday the company will issue bonuses, raise wages and invest in employee training in the first quarter of 2018.

--

SpartanNash spokesperson Meredith Gremel said the company does not plan to disclose the total dollar amount of the bonuses.

The bonus amounts will vary depending on the employee’s position and market, as will the wage increases, Gremel said. She noted those in entry-level roles or just beyond will benefit the most.”— Feb. 23 2018, Grand Rapids Business Journal article excerpts

Penske Automotive Group. (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan) – Increased 401(k) contributions:

Penske Automotive Group, Inc. (NYSE: PAG), an international transportation services company, announced today that it has enhanced the company's U.S. 401(k) savings plan by increasing company matching contributions from 1.5% to  2.5% of eligible contributions, representing an increase of 67%.  The increase will provide a recurring, annual benefit to our employees.

"The recently enacted tax reform positively impacts our business, presenting us with even greater opportunities to pursue our strategic initiatives, invest in our employees and improve shareholder value," said Penske Automotive Group Chairman Roger S. Penske – Jan. 31, 2018 Penske Automotive Group press release

WebHobby Shop, LLC (Pontiac, Michigan) -- $2.00 per hour raise for employees:

“I am sure it seems like 'crumbs' to elitists but I was able to give them a $2 per hour raise because of the tax reform. It was great to do and my staff is very pleased.” – Bruce Zak, Principal, WEBHOBBYSHOP LLC

Stormcloud Brewing Company (Frankfort, Michigan) -- Savings from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act allowed the company to buy new equipment and hire more employees:

“When the initial tax credit passed, it was an immediate savings for us and we were at a time when our business was continuing to grow, and so we took that opportunity to look at how we could invest in additional equipment, which brought on new employees as well,” said Stormcloud Co-Owner Rick Schmitt.

“We were able to add tank space, which allowed us to increase our distribution footprint, so today we’re in 35 counties in Michigan and likely we wouldn’t be there today if it weren’t for this tax credit,” said Schmitt.-- Oct. 7, 2019 9 & 10 News

Lakestone Bank & Trust (Lapeer, Michigan) -- Pay raise for hourly employees of $1 per hour; $1,000 bonuses for salaried employees:

Lakestone Bank & Trust announced Friday that employees will benefit from the recently announced tax reform law.

Bruce J. Cady, chairman and CEO of Lakestone Bank & Trust said, “We are very appreciative of all Lakestone Bank & Trust employees and certainly what they have accomplished over the years, particularly the last year; and we want to commemorate the passing of this historic, economy-stimulating tax reform law. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we know we want to reinvest much of the savings back into our bank and the first place we are going to put it is into the hands of our employees. Employees are our most important asset.

All hourly employees received a $1 per hour raise and all salaried employees will receive a $1,000 bonus. The bank's board of directors overwhelmingly supported this action, resulting in a significant investment into the bank's employees. -- Jan. 28, 2018 The County Press article excerpt

Mill Steel Company (Grand Rapids, Michigan) – $1,000 bonuses for 400 full-time associates:

Mill Steel Co., one of the nation's largest distributors of flat-rolled carbon steel, is pleased to award a $1,000 bonus to all 400 of its full-time associates following the tax cut passed by Congress and signed by President Trump.

Mill Steel announced this morning that all full-time associates across its nine operations nationwide, no matter each individual's seniority, will receive a one-time bonus from the recent tax overhaul that reduces corporate tax rates. – Feb. 8 2018, Mill Steel Company press release excerpt

Renaissance Global Logistics (Detroit, Michigan) – Tax reform bonuses:

“Tax reform helped Renaissance Global Logistics, headquartered in Detroit, give bonuses to my employees. Nancy Pelosi call these bonuses ‘crumbs’ and that’s disrespectful. I would ask Nancy Pelosi to come to Detroit to ask my employees what they thought of the bonuses. As an employer, it was rewarding to be able to give them out. Tax reform gives small businesses like mine the chance to reinvest into our workforce.” – John James, CEO of Renaissance Global Logistics, Feb. 22, 2018

Cedar Springs Brewing Company (Cedar Springs, Michigan) -- Used savings from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to hire new employees and purchase new equipment:

Across the nation, craft beer makers are urging Congress to pass the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act.

The current legislation gives small brewers a 50% reduction of their federal excise tax, but it expires at the end of 2019.

"It was relief for a lot of us," Cedar Springs Brewing Company's Dave Ringler said. "I can speak personally, that gave us a little cash flow ease. It was something we used to hire employees, buy new equipment. It definitely helped out."

The new act would make that tax cut permanent.

"We’re all little guys," Ringler added. "Almost all of us are entrepreneurs that are sole proprietors or small business people, so it really does help Main Street."

"Small breweries really are the lifeblood of small communities," Ringler added. "It's been a huge part of revitalization in communities not only here in Michigan but nationally." -- Oct. 10, 2019 Fox 17 Article

Land & Co. (Wyoming, Michigan) -- $1,000 bonuses for full-time employees; $500 bonuses for part-time employees; $250 bonuses for seasonal workers:

Land & Co., which operates 19 apartment communities in West Michigan, announced it will give its employees a special bonus of up to $1,000 in response the federal tax cut legislation signed recently by President Donald Trump.

"Land & Co. believes the Trump Tax Cut has generated a more optimistic vision for the future of business in West Michigan and the United States of America and wants their wonderful employees to be a part of and share in that vision," the company said in a statement attributed to its owners, Roger Lucas and Dan Hibma on Monday, Feb. 5.

Land & Co.'s 151 full-time employees will each get $1,000; its 17 part-time workers will get $500 and its nine seasonal workers will each get $250. – Feb. 5, 2018 Mlive.com article excerpt

Haworth Inc. (Holland, Michigan) – $1,000 bonuses for full-time employees, $500 bonuses for part-time employees; bonuses totaling $5 million:

Matt Haworth, chairman of the family-owned company, announced to staff on Wednesday, Jan. 24, that full time employees would receive one-time bonuses of $1,000, and part-timers would collect $500.

More than 4,500 employees who work for Haworth-branded companies around the globe will collect the rare bonus.

--

Matt Haworth says the company is able to make the $5 million investment because of several factors including strong 2017 revenues which will be announced next month and an improved business climate state and nationally. The latter he attributes to a rollback of regulations and taxes, which lower company's operational costs. – Jan. 25, 2018 Grand Rapid News article excerpts

Buttigieg Praises Opportunity Zones, Vows to Eliminate TCJA Which Created the Zones in the First Place

Pete Buttigieg said that the possibilities that exist within Opportunity Zones created by the Tax Cuts and Jobs act are “inherent,” and he operates two of his campaign offices in an Opportunity Zone, including his headquarters.

But in November, Buttigieg told the Indy Star that he would eliminate Donald Trump’s tax cuts which created the opportunity zones in the first place.

“For Opportunity Zones to deliver on their promise, communities must proactively guide investment to where it is needed and productive. That's why South Bend has prepared a Community Prospectus for Opportunity Zone investing,” Buttigieg said in a January tweet. “Many thanks to our friends and partners at @USAccelerate especially @ericgarcetti and @bruce_katz for teaming up with us to make sure the opportunity inherent in this policy becomes real for our residents.

The GOP-enacted Tax Cuts and Jobs Act created the Opportunity Zones to encourage long-term investment, innovation, and growth in distressed areas.

In addition, two of his South Bend campaign offices are located in the Opportunity Zones created by the TCJA.

His campaign headquarters at 105 E Jefferson Blvd, Ste 800 is in an Opportunity Zone, and his field office at 218 Sycamore St. is also in an Opportunity Zone. The Opportunity Zones are located in Census Tracts 18141001700 and 18141001000, according to the governor’s website

In August 2018, Buttigieg wrote an article in Accelerator for America where he explained how the Opportunity Zones would be used in South Bend.

“In South Bend, the selection of Opportunity Zone areas looks toward harnessing our strengths as an engine of growth,” Buttigieg wrote.

According to the South Bend Tribune, the South Bend mayor attended a forum hosted by Accelerator for America in 2018, where he discussed South Bend’s “efforts to take advantage of Opportunity Zones.”

Buttigieg co-led the Accelerator’s “Opportunity Zones initiative” as well, according to a press release by the group.

When Buttigieg got the news in 2018 that South Bend was nominated by the Governor of Indiana, Eric Holcomb, he tweeted that he would “make the most of investment possibilities that this opens up.”

During a Fox News town hall in May, Buttigieg said that the TCJA was “a tax cut for the rich that America did not need,” according to The Fiscal Times.

Then-Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris had her campaign headquarters located in an Opportunity Zone, as well. The campaign told the The Baltimore Sun in May that the headquarters would be moved to an Opportunity Zone:

“The campaign said the permanent site will be located in an “opportunity zone.” That federal program — part of a 2017 tax reform law -- is designed to attract billions of dollars of private investment and government resources to distressed communities around the nation."

Sanders: “Of Course” Medicare for All Will Cost You Something

Bernie Sanders said that “healthcare is not free” and “of course” his Medicare for All plan will cost Americans something, during a Dec. 7 rally in Cedar Rapids.

Sanders: “Now, healthcare is not free. And nobody in this room would believe me if I said I could snap my fingers and give everybody qualify healthcare that doesn’t cost you anything, of course it’s going to cost you something.”

Sanders has previously said that he plans to tax all income over $29,000 to help cover the cost for Medicare for All, which has an estimated cost of $32 trillion to $36 trillion.

Elizabeth Warren, on the other hand, claims that her Medicare for All plan will not cost middle class Americans “one penny,” which is in direct contrast to what Sanders says about his Medicare for All plan.

"Yeah, [we'd have to] raise taxes on the middle class," Sanders told a CNN reporter after the July debate.

Earlier in December, Joe Biden criticized Warren and Sanders for their Medicare for All plans, stating that “you gotta raise taxes.”

Do you think it's remotely possible to raise $3.5 trillion a year, more than every single penny we spend on every single thing in the federal government on a yearly basis, without raising taxes on the middle class? If you answer that question, then I'm ending the interview because you know it's not true. You gotta raise taxes,” Biden said.

Today President Trump will be hosting a campaign rally in Hershey, Pennsylvania.  Pennsylvania residents are raking in the benefits of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, signed into law by Trump.

Thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act:

Tax cut: Every income group in every Pennsylvania congressional district saw a tax cut.

Doubled child tax credit: 840,120 Pennsylvania households are benefiting from the TCJA’s doubling of the child tax credit.

Standard deduction:  4,418,190 Pennsylvania households are benefiting from the TCJA’s doubling of the standard deduction.

Obamacare individual mandate tax relief: 166,680 Pennsylvania households are benefiting from the TCJA’s elimination of the Obamacare individual mandate tax. Most households hit with this tax made less than $50,000 per year.

Lower utility bills: As a direct result of the TCJA’s corporate rate cut,Pennsylvania residents are paying lower utility bills. Lower electric, water, and gas bills help households each month, and also help small businesses operating on slim profit margins. Pennsylvania examples of utilities passing on tax savings to customers include – but are not limited to – Pike County Light & Power Company, PPL Electric Utilities Corporation, Wellsboro Electric Company, and more.

Thanks to the TCJA’s corporate tax rate cut – from 35 percent to 21 percent – and the TCJA’s 20 percent tax cut for small businesses, employers of all sizes are hiring, expanding, increasing pay and benefits, and paying special tax-cut bonuses:

Hudson Facades (Linwood, Pennsylvania) –  $3,000 in every factory worker’s 401(k); increase base wage pay:

"We raised wages, yes,” said Allen Cohen, managing partner of New Hudson Facades, of the approximate 5 percent raise given to employees. “In addition to that, Related Companies [a partner company] has given every factory employee, $3,000 in their 401(k).” – Feb. 20 2018, WHYY article excerpt

Guy Chemical Company Inc. (Somerset, Pennsylvania) – Increased bonuses, increased wages, and investments in new equipment – a new forklift, new laboratory furnishings, updated computer equipment, and new software system:

Guy Chemical is increasing bonuses between 25 – 50%, increasing wages and investing in new equipment. So far in 2018 we bought a new forklift, furnished a new laboratory and updated some of our computer equipment. We have also invested in a new ERP software system to run our company. – April 4, 2018 statement to Americans for Tax Reform from Guy Berkebile, President of Guy Chemical Company Inc.

Dollar Bank (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) - $2,000 permanent raises for employees making $60,000 or below:

Four months after most banks moved to give employees some of the anticipated savings from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the $8.3 billion-asset Dollar is giving workers with annual salaries at or below $60,000 a $2,000 raise. About 60% of Dollar’s 1,300-person workforce will get raises, Senior Vice President Joseph B. Smith said Monday.

CEO Jim McQuade announced the raises May 2 in an in-house video message. They went into effect May 1. - May 7, 2018, American Banker article excerpt

Erie Insurance (Erie, Pennsylvania) – $1,000 bonuses; $1,000 contribution to employees’ 401(k) accounts:

Erie Insurance CEO Tim NeCastro called an all-employee meeting Wednesday to deliver a bit of good news — a few million dollars worth of good news, in fact.

Like many corporations, the company was expected to benefit from the new tax code that President Donald Trump signed into law in December.

NeCastro has announced that the company will share those benefits with its employees by giving a $1,000 cash bonus to permanent full-and part-time employees.

In addition, the company will contribute $1,000 to the account of any employee who has a 401 (k) retirement savings plan. – March 23 2018, Go Erie article excerpt

Blair Strip Steel Company (New Castle, Pennsylvania) -- The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act allowed the company to raise wages, hire new people, and buy new equipment.

“I want to thank Mike Kelly for his role in the successful effort to reduce taxes on behalf of the company and it’s employees, said Bruce Kinney, president and CEO of Blair Strip Steel Company. His efforts are a key part of rebuilding and sustaining a healthier manufacturing climate in Pennsylvania and across the United States.” -- August 6, 2018 NAM Shopfloor Blog

Despite Steep Tax Hikes, Biden’s Numbers Don’t Add Up

Biden rightfully attacks Warren on the issue, but his own numbers don’t add up. He’s $1.4 trillion short.

Joe Biden regularly calls out Elizabeth Warren for not having numbers that add up. But Biden should look in the mirror: His own numbers don’t add up. Despite a raft of steep tax increases, he is still $1.4 trillion short:

May 28, 2019: Title I Spending Proposal -- $311.9 Billion: This Biden proposal calls for a tripling of Title I funding. This would cost around $311.9 billion over 10 years.

“He will pay for these investments in working Americans by making sure the super-wealthy and corporations pay their fair share. His first step will be reversing President Trump’s tax cuts for the super-wealthy and corporations. Joe will also eliminate special tax breaks that reward special interests and get rid of the capital gains loophole for multi-millionaires,” his website says.

June 4, 2019: “Climate” Spending Proposal -- $1.7 Trillion:  Biden’s website states his $1.7 trillion climate plan will be funded as follows:

“The Biden plan will be paid for by reversing the excesses of the Trump tax cuts for corporations, reducing incentives for tax havens, evasion, and outsourcing, ensuring corporations pay their fair share, closing other loopholes in our tax code that reward wealth not work, and ending subsidies for fossil fuels,” his website says.

July 15, 2019: Healthcare Spending Proposal -- $750 Billion: According to the New York Times, his $750 billion healthcare plan will be paid for by “rolling back the $1.5 trillion tax cut Congress passed last year and doubling the tax rate on capital gains for the wealthiest Americans — those with annual incomes of more than $1 million.”

Oct. 8, 2019: Higher Education Spending Proposal -- $750 Billion: Biden’s higher education plan cites the following revenue source:

“The Biden plan for education beyond high school is a $750 billion investment over ten years targeted at growing a stronger, more inclusive middle class. It will be paid for by making sure that the super-wealthy pay their fair share. Specifically, this plan will be paid for by eliminating the stepped-up basis loophole and capping the itemized deductions the wealthiest Americans can take to 28%.”

Nov. 14, 2019: “Infrastructure” Spending Proposal -- $1.3 Trillion: To fund his $1.3 trillion “infrastructure” plan, Biden says that it would be paid for by “making sure the super-wealthy and corporations pay their fair share.” This is a copy and paste job from his climate plan.

Biden’s website says: “Specifically, this investment will be offset by revenue raised through reversing the excesses of the Trump tax cuts for corporations; reducing incentives for tax havens, evasion, and outsourcing; ensuring corporations pay their fair share; closing other loopholes in our tax code that reward wealth, not work; and ending subsidies for fossil fuels.”

According to Bloomberg News, Biden’s campaign provided them with the information for $3.42 trillion in tax increase proposals to pay for all of these new plans.

Bloomberg News says that Biden is only proposing $3.2 trillion in policy proposals, but the Bloomberg article failed to include his proposed Title I spending increase.

The Bloomberg News piece also combined Biden’s climate and infrastructure plan, which are listed as two separate plans on Biden’s website, both with different costs. The climate plan was released on June 14, and the infrastructure plan was released on Nov. 14.

The total amount need for Biden’s infrastructure, climate, Title I, healthcare, and college plan: $4.811 trillion.

Here’s the breakdown of the math: (Via Joe Biden’s Campaign Website)

Infrastructure Plan: $1.3 Trillion

Climate plan: $1.7 Trillion

Triple Title I Funding: $311.91 Billion

Healthcare Plan: $750 Billion (Via New York Times)

Higher Education Plan: $750 Billion

Total: $4.811 Trillion

However, Biden’s campaign only provided Bloomberg News with the information for $3.42 trillion in tax increases, leaving him $1.4 trillion short. Here’s the breakdown of his proposed tax increases: (Source: Bloomberg News and the Biden campaign website)

Tax capital gains as income: $800 Billion

Raise corporate tax rate to 28%: $730 Billion

End stepped-up basis: $440 Billion

15% corporate minimum tax: $400 Billion

21% minimum tax rate on foreign profits: $340 Billion

Impose 28% cap on deductions: $310 Billion

Sanctions for “tax avoidance”: $200 Billion

Raise top income tax rate to 39.6%: $90 Billion

Close real estate “loopholes”: $70 Billion

Energy tax hikes: $40 Billion

Total: $3.420 trillion raised

= Biden is $1.4 trillion short

Why didn’t Bloomberg News call Biden out for the discrepancy? Is this part of Michael Bloomberg’s go-easy-on-the-Democrats diktat?

Perhaps the $1.4 trillion in missing tax hikes will come from Biden’s carbon tax, which will impose harsh costs on American households. On Sept. 4, Biden endorsed a carbon tax during a CNN climate town hall.

As stated by Bloomberg News: “With the proposal, Biden’s campaign is seeking to show a full list of taxes and other revenue-raising proposals that would pay for all of his spending plans -- a test he has set for his Democratic rivals, especially Senator Elizabeth Warren and her Medicare for All plan.”

Biden’s own policy director even emphasizes the importance of transparency.

“The vice president does think it’s very important to be clear with the American people regarding how you’re going to pay for things in order to demonstrate they can actually get it done,” Biden’s policy director Stef Feldman told Bloomberg News.

Biden has some explaining to do, and Warren has an opening to hit him back.

Biden: Capital Gains Tax Rate “Could Go Higher” Than 40%

Joe Biden said he might raise capital gains tax rates higher than 40%, during an interview with CNBC’s John Harwood on Friday.

Biden: “We should charge people the same tax for their capital gains as their tax rate is. And I think we should raise the tax rate back to, for example, I take it back to where it was before it was reduced. It could go higher, but at 39.5%, 40% basically if you have that as the capital gains, that raises, I brought along, I’m not going to bore you with it, but you’ve seen it, I brought along a graph is how much money each of these things raise.”

Biden has already said that he plans to double the capital gains tax rate to 40 percent for “every single solitary person.

Raising the capital gains tax would harm Americans’ ability to build a nest egg and hurt the value of their homes, farms, and businesses.

Biden’s comments and his long Senate voting record mean voters should expect him to push for capital gains tax hikes if elected. During his time in the Senate, Biden consistently voted against tax cuts on capital gains.

In 2003, Biden voted against the reduction in the capital gains rate from 20 percent to 15 percent. In 2005 and 2006, Biden voted against extending the 15 percent rate.

In 2012, then-Vice President Biden and President Obama insisted the cap gains rate revert to 20 percent.

Biden and Obama then piled on another 3.8 percent capital gains tax hike -- the Net Income Investment Tax -- one of the many tax increases in Obamacare. The 3.8 percent tax hike took effect Jan. 1, 2013.

Currently, long-term capital gains are taxed at zero percent, 15 percent, or 20 percent, depending on income level.

Households subject to Obamacare’s 3.8 percent Net Income Investment Tax end up paying a 23.8% rate. And under Biden’s cap gains scheme, such households will face a 43.4 percent rate.
