WASHINGTON – Today, the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project (RRLP) announced that 27 of America \’s governors are issuing proclamations naming February 6, 2004, "Ronald Reagan Day." In addition, state legislative chambers from coast to coast have passed resolutions honoring him, and several states have passed legislation permanently naming Feb. 6 Ronald Reagan Day.

Proclamations and resolutions were varied, though recurring themes included President Reagan\’s work to end the Cold War, ushering in a renewed sense of American patriotism and purpose, and reminding Americans that their greatness comes from the sweat of their own brow and not government largess.

In California , where President Reagan served as governor from 1967-1975, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said that Reagan, "with conviction and moral purpose, achieved his three principal goals of invigorating the economy, defeating communism and restoring national pride."

In Illinois , President Reagan\’s birthplace, an annual Ronald Reagan Day has been enacted by the state legislature and the Ronald Reagan Trail has been created to showcase events and places important to Reagan in his years as an Illinoisan.

"With every passing year, President Reagan looms larger on the landscape of American presidents. He pulled America up from the pain and morass that was the legacy of the 1970s and he restored our pride. Millions around the globe owe Ronald Reagan for their freedom," said RRLP Chairman Grover Norquist. "Particularly important today, President Reagan brought our military back, shaping it into a force for the 21st Century. President Reagan truly deserves to be honored on this special day."
