Elizabeth Warren to Impose “Lobbying Tax” on Americans Exercising their Constitutional Rights
The First Amendment guarantees the right to “petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” But Elizabeth Warren called for a federal tax on lobbying Wednesday, with the intent to “end lobbying as we know it.”
She then wants to take the tax money and have the government use it to lobby against Americans who dare challenge the government’s actions.
“My plan also calls for something unique — a new tax on excessive lobbying that applies to every corporation and trade organization that spends over $500,000 per year lobbying our government,” Warren wrote.
This is how Warren plans on structuring the tax:
- 35% tax on every dollar between $500,000 and $1 million spent on lobbying.
- 60% tax on every dollar above $1 million spent on lobbying.
- 75% tax on every dollar above $5 million spent on lobbying.
This is where it gets even worse:
“Every dollar raised by the lobbying tax will be placed into a new Lobbying Defense Trust Fund dedicated to directing a surge of resources to Congress and federal agencies to fight back against the effort to bury public interest actions by the government.”
In other words, if you dare lobby against anything the Warren administration does, your own tax money will be used to fight against you, with the full might of the federal government.
“Elizabeth Warren has found one more thing to tax in addition your income, energy use, life savings, IRA, and 401k,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. “She would impose a tax on Americans who petition their government for more freedom. To avoid the unconstitutional stench of this idea, she calls these petitioners “lobbyists” rather than American citizens. Warren would tax ‘lobbyists’ asking for less government and she promises to spend that tax money paying lobbyists she likes — maybe government workers — to lobby for more government. Maybe Hunter Biden can get a job lobbying against this tax.”
