Recently, Democratic incumbent Margaret Vanderhye appeared on WAMU’s The Kojo Knamdi Show stating she would stand with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Creigh Deeds in his support of tax increases. Currently, Vanderhye is running against Barbara Comstock in the 34th House of Delegates district in Virginia. Comstock is the only candidate in the 34th district to have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, committing to “oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes.”

Vanderhye has continually supported further tax increases for Virginians throughout this recession. As Virginians tighten their belts and spend less Vanderhye wants to find ways to spend more. This cannot happen if we wish to see economic recovery. Incredibly, this is not the first time Vanderhye has been in favor of tax increases during economic downturns. Back in July 2008 she supported a tax increase that would have cost Virginians an estimated $4 billion.
