Yesterday, state Sen. Pamela Gorman signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge in the race to replace retiring Rep. John Shadegg of Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District. Arizona taxpayers know her as a strong supporter of taxpayers’ rights as she signed the Pledge previously as a state legislator.

Cook Political Report rates this district as “Lean R” with a PVI of R+9. Rep. Shadegg won this district in 2008 with 54% of the vote.

Taxpayer Hero Announces Run for Congress
Sen. Pamela Gorman vies to continue Shadegg’s legacy of conservative leadership

Washington, D.C. – Arizona state Senator Pamela Gorman (R – District 6) announced today that she will seek to replace congressman John Shadegg in representing Arizona’s third congressional district. Shadegg, who has represented Arizona’s third House district since 1995, announced last week that he is retiring from congress.

Upon announcing her candidacy, Sen. Gorman became the first candidate to sign the federal Taxpayer Protection Pledge, a written commitment to oppose tax increases on Capitol Hill.

“Sen. Pamela Gorman is a proven and courageous advocate for fiscally conservative principles and policies,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. “In standing up against many in her own party and the media, Sen. Gorman was instrumental in preventing the imposition of a $3 billion, mid-recession, tax hike on all Arizonans.”

To date, 34 U.S. Senators and 172 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have signed the Pledge. Additionally, seven governors and over 1,100 state legislators have signed the Pledge.

“As a lawmaker who actually reads and understands the legislation she votes on, Gorman would be a refreshing addition to Congress. Not only has Gorman staved off family budget busting tax increases in the Grand Canyon State, she has championed legislation to streamline government and eliminate wasteful spending. Examination of Gorman’s record proves that she will continue Congressman Shadegg’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and conservative principles if elected and will stand strong against the agenda of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid,” added Norquist.
