Commends Senator for taking pledge to oppose all proposed tax increases
WASHINGTON- On October 10 Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, spoke in Michigan commending United States Senator Spence Abraham\’s record on taxes and highlighting his willingness to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, which commits the signer to oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes.
Below are some of Mr. Norquist\’s comments about Sen. Abraham, his record on taxes and his opponent, U.S. Rep. Debbie Stabenow :
"Sen. Abraham has a track record of fighting for not only the taxpayers of Michigan, but also taxpayers across the entire country. His constituents can be proud of his record.
"The taxpayers of Michigan are safe with Spence Abraham representing them. He played a key role in helping to balance the budget and in creating the surplus we have today. Abraham has made doubling the per-child tax credit for working families a priority, and emphasized the importance of repealing the death and marriage penalty taxes.
"Sen. Abraham understands that Americans pay too much in taxes and is working hard in the Senate to provide not only the people of Michigan with tax relief, but all Americans.
"Voters in Michigan need to be made aware of how dangerous Sen. Abraham\’s opponent is for taxpayers. Rep. Stabenow voted against the Tax Limitation Amendment, against repeal of the telephone excise tax, and against repeal of the death tax. Clearly Rep. Stabenow is no friend of the hard-working taxpayers of Michigan."
