Commends Congressman for taking pledge to oppose all proposed tax increases

WASHINGTON- On October 2 Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, spoke at a press conference commending United States Representative Jim Saxton\’s record on taxes and highlighting his willingness to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, which commits the signer to oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes.

Below are some of Mr. Norquist\’s comments about Rep. Saxton, his record on taxes and his opponent in the 3rd District:

"Rep. Saxton has a track record of fighting for not only the taxpayers of his district, but also the taxpayers of his state and taxpayers across the entire country.  His constituents can be proud of his record.

"Taxpayers of the 3rd District of New Jersey are safe with Jim Saxton representing them.  He played a key role in helping to balance the budget and in creating the surplus we have today.

"Rep. Saxton understands that Americans pay too much in taxes and is working hard in Congress to provide not only the people of the 3rd District with tax relief, but all Americans.

"Voters in the 3rd District need to be made aware of how dangerous Rep. Saxton\’s opponent is for taxpayers.  When his opponent, Susan Levin, took office as mayor of Cherry Hill in 1988, she announced an 82 percent hike in municipal property taxes 42 days into her term.  Days later, she was quoted in the Philadelphia Inquirer saying \’people will forget this tax increase.\’  Clearly Ms. Levin is no friend to hard-working taxpayers."
