NY Tax Day/Doug Kellogg

An April 15th press conference to commemorate New York’s dreaded Tax Day featured speakers Minority Leader Will Barclay, Assemblyman Robert Smullen, Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist, and many more legislators and advocacy groups.

As New York has once again been ranked worst in the nation in economic outlook, and New York City residents now pay the highest combined tax burden in the nation, the speakers united in their criticism of staggering tax rates, regulations, out-of-control spending, and costly climate mandates that are pushing people and businesses out of state.

Grover Norquist highlighted how much worse the situation would get if President Biden’s latest budget proposals were implemented, raising taxes.

The message from the speakers was clear: New York continues to decline under the weight of unaffordable budgets and uncompetitive tax rates. This year’s Tax Day press conference served as a call for a change of course for New York State.
