Current ATR estimates as to the current circulation of coinage based on production over 35 years:

Coins represent about five percent of total monies in circulation, or $34,205,248,448, as of April 30, 2004

Methodology: These numbers were achieved by considering the production statistics of coinage over the past 28 months. The monthly average was taken and then multiplied by the number of months in the average coin lifespan. Dollar coins are not contained in the estimate because of their recent introduction to the system. The total value of the ATR estimates is $37,228,808,250. This is an error of $3 billion compared with Federal Reserve statistics.
