Tancredo "Out of Line" to Question Brownback\’s Credentials

Washington D.C. – Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) President Grover Norquist today fervently
defended Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) against charges that he is liberal and soft on border security.

Brownback was called "pro-amnesty" yesterday by Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO). This unfair slur was leveled simply because Sen. Brownback has cosponsored a bill which would comprehensively and permanently fix our nation\’s broken immigration system.

"Sam Brownback has been a leader for movement conservatives going back to his days in the House of Representatives," said Norquist. "His lifetime average on ATR\’s \’Hero of the
Taxpayer\’ Award is 98%. You\’ll find similar high scores from the other reputable grassroots
conservative organizations."

Senator Brownback continues to be a leader in many conservative causes. He is one of the Senate\’s most pro-family, pro-life members. He has championed school choice and a flat tax for the District of Columbia. He has implemented his conservative vision pragmatically by leading the fight against AIDS in Africa.

"To challenge Senator Brownback\’s credentials on law-and-order and conservative values is
foolish,"
continued Norquist. "If Congressman Tancredo\’s position had any resonance in
Colorado, perhaps he would be a colleague of Brownback\’s in the Senate. As it is, he\’ll have to content himself with his private tower of righteousness in the House."
