At Americans for Tax Reform’s annual Tax Day Eve Press Conference last Thursday, Congressman Mike Kelly (R-PA) highlighted the success of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in allowing American businesses to compete globally. As Rep. Kelly noted, this means middle class families have more take-home pay and higher wages:
“In every measurable way, this economy has soared under this pro-growth tax reform. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has been incredible, right across the board… Allowing hardworking Americans to keep more of their own tax dollars was the whole goal. We were able to do that.
“We were also able to make our own businesses globally competitive so they can stay right here. They didn’t leave the United States because they weren’t patriotic. They left the United States because they couldn’t be profitable anymore. It’s that simple. They couldn’t make the investments they needed to make. They couldn’t do the things they wanted to do with benefits packages. They couldn’t make the investments in new tools, and new equipment, and in education.
“The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act is an incredible boost to our economy. We’re watching it take off. You know what the biggest surprise is? Is that it happened on day one as opposed to a year later…People say, “Well wait till you see it kick in.”
“It kicked in. It kicked in early. Investments, benefits, and more than anything else, people that came to work every day and get up every day with a smile on their faces. You know what? I get to keep more of my own hard earned cash. That was the whole key.
“Every measurable way, we’re in better shape today than we were before we got this bill done.”
