At Americans for Tax Reform’s annual Tax Day Press Eve Conference last Thursday, Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Ill.) praised the middle class tax relief and economy growth resulting from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act:

“We thought about what we wanted to do in comprehensive tax reform. For me, really looking at two important things. How do we help the lower and middle class in giving more money back to them so that they can use that to expand their business, or use it in their personal life, or their children, in their livelihood.

“Then secondly, how do we get the economy roaring again? How do we get it healthy and robust and competitive through comprehensive tax reform?

“I think we accomplished both of those things. I look at a district like mine, which is a middle class district in central, west central Illinois. The average family of four in my district that makes $65,000 a year, it gets back about $2,600 a year.

“I look at where we’re at today in terms of lowest unemployment in 40 years, we’ve created 2.8 million jobs in the last 14 months. Look at the fact that we’re having more jobs and opportunities, private sector wages are going up. Comprehensive tax reform helped with that.”

Congressman Lahood represents Illinois’ 18th district. ATR has compiled a list of Illinois companies giving tax-cut bonuses and raises, available here. The national list of companies can be found here.
