Six Republicans will face off in the first round of a special election primary on May 2nd to determine who will be the next person to represent South Carolina’s 5th district in the United States House of Representatives. This election is to replace Director Mick Mulvaney who was nominated by President Trump to lead the Office of Management and Budget. A potential primary runoff will take place on May 16th, if no candidate reaches at least 50% of the vote. The general election will take place on June 20th. Cook Political Report rates the race as Solid-Republican.
