Attorney Bob McConnell, a candidate running in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional district, recently became the first signer of the Taxpayer Protection Pledge in that 2010 midterm contest

McConnell is competing in the Colorado GOP Primary, which will be held in August, for the chance to unseat current incumbent, Democratic Congressman John Salazar. Charlie Cook gives the seat a PVI of R + 5, according to his organization’s website. Salazar has been in office since 2005, and has been a staunch supporter of the out of control tax-and-spend policies that the Pelosi-Obama-Reid agenda has brought about. Voting YES to legislation such as the “Stimulus”, and the House Health Care Bill; Salazar has imposed outrageous tax hikes on the middle class, and massive amounts of debt on future generations.

McConnell, in signing the Pledge, has made it clear to the taxpayers in the 3rd district that he will fight for their best interests. McConnell is the only signer of the Pledge in the race. ATR continues to urge all 2010 midterm candidates across the country to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

Bob McConnell (R-Colo.) signs the Taxpayer Protection Pledge
Congressional candidate promises to protect taxpayers’ wallets

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Bob McConnell, a Republican running in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional district, recently signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). The Pledge commits signers to “oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses … and oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.”

ATR has offered the Pledge to all candidates for federal office since 1987. To date, 34 U.S. senators and 172 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have signed the Pledge. Additionally, seven Governors and over 1,100 state legislators have signed the Pledge.

“After the passage of the so-called “Stimulus Package,” better known as the Pelosi-Obama-Reid Spending Give-Away, Americans are desperately searching for candidates and politicians that will protect their livelihoods and put their wallets ahead of the federal government’s coffers,” said Grover Norquist, president of ATR.

“By signing the Pledge, Bob McConnell demonstrates that he understands the problems of hard-working taxpayers nationwide, but especially the taxpayers in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional district.”

“I challenge all candidates for federal office to make the same commitment to taxpayers by signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge today,” Norquist continued.
