Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist offered the following statement on the agreement by Florida House Speaker Chris Sprowls and Senate President Wilton Simpson to include reductions to the commercial lease tax in online sales tax legislation, HB15:

“It is a great time to be a Florida taxpayer, more tax relief is on the way thanks to the hard work of Republican lawmakers, and legislative leaders.

“Legislation to implement an internet sales tax will now be revenue-neutral, and potentially a net tax cut, with the addition of a significant reduction to the commercial lease tax, on top of existing provisions protecting Florida businesses from future tax increases to refill the unemployment trust fund.

“Legislators can and should enthusiastically support this bill, which puts Florida taxpayers first. Commercial lease tax has long been one of the few taxes Florida had that other states did not, reducing that burden is a wonderful step.

“House Speaker Sprowls and Senate President Simpson have really come through for taxpayers and businesses. Even as Washington attempts to unconstitutionally meddle with the ability of states to cut taxes, their agreement shows why Florida keeps leading as the destination for families and businesses.”
