Never discount tax increases from tax and spend liberals
Washington, DC- In New York’s 24th Congressional District, the contrasts between candidates is clear. State Senator Ray Meir (R-NY) has taken ATR’s pledge to “oppose any and all tax increases…” while Michael Arcuri (D-NY) refuses to rule out tax hikes for the families of New York.
If Congress fails to extend the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act (JGTRRA) of 2003 then the taxpayers of New York will be saddled with even higher taxes. The average New Yorker will receive a $1,962 tax increase on their federal returns, a significant blow to their wallets. New Yorkers already experience one of the heaviest tax burdens in the United States.
“An increase of $2,000 is no small piece of change to anyone,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. “For a family of four, a $4,000 increase practically takes away the chance of their children attending private schools or possibly a family vacation. Taxpayers shouldn’t have to decide between their children and their tax returns.”
Since the passage of JGTRRA, New York has experience a net job creation of 223,100 jobs or a 2.7% increase in employment for the Empire State.
“I think New Yorkers need to take a serious look at this race. Michael Arcuri won’t support making these tax cuts permanent,” continued Norquist. “He’s already expressed his support for tax hikes with accusations of tax cuts for the rich and a government starved for funds. I think he needs to realize that taxpayers are starved for funds, the federal government needs to tighten its belt.”
