Montana’s Initiative 185 would likely lead to tax hikes even though “it more than doubles our existing tobacco tax,” says Montana Policy Institute’s Brent Mead in the latest Swamp to the States podcast. “They’re also expanding the definition of tobacco to include things that objectively do not have tobacco… vape products.”
On Initiative 186 (which would make new mine permitting difficult), Mead points out, “it was written by the lawyers who intend to sue the state if the state ever gives a permit to a new mine.”
