WASHINGTON – Americans for Tax Reform, the nation\’s leading taxpayer advocacy organization, will hold a press conference on Wednesday July 6, 2005 to mark Cost of Government Day (COGD), the day in the calendar year when Americans have paid their share of the federal, state and local tax and regulatory burdens. This year\’s COGD fell on Independence Day, July 4th the same as last year.
Cost of Government Day is the date of the calendar year on which the average American worker has earned enough gross income to pay off his or her share of spending and regulatory burdens imposed by all levels of government, federal, state and local. The COGD reports the trends of each component including federal and state & local spending and federal and state regulations.
The conference will be held at the U.S. Capitol\’s Cannon House Office Building in room 311 at 3pm on Wednesday, July 6th. Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas) will co-host the conference. All press – broadcast, print, and Internet – are invited to report on the study\’s findings.
