Virginia Delegate Praised for Pro-Taxpayer Policies

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) is proud to announce that Delegate Scott Lingamfelter (R-31) of Virginia has won its "Friend of the Taxpayer" award for the month of May. ATR has nominated pro-taxpayer lawmakers for the "Friend of the Taxpayer" award since 1997.

ATR awarded Del. Lingamfelter "Friend of the Taxpayer" because of his work on behalf of Virginia\’s taxpayers. Del. Lingamfelter has worked to accomplish the following:

· Oppose the sales tax referendum in 2002 that would have raised taxes for hard-working Northern Virginians.

· Repeal Virginia\’s death tax and allow Virginian families to derive sustainable, long-term benefit from their small businesses and farms.

· Finish phasing out Virginia\’s car tax. The tax is currently 70% phased out; Del. Lingamfelter supports completion of the phase-out to 100%.

"I applaud Delegate Lingamfelter for his principled stance on issues important to Virginia\’s taxpayers," commented Grover Norquist, President of ATR. "Scott has demonstrated a solid understanding of the burden that Virginia\’s taxpayers bear, and he has dedicated himself to reducing that burden.

"Thank you, Delegate Lingamfelter, for your hard work on behalf of taxpayers in the 31st House district and across the state of Virginia. Please accept our Friend of the Taxpayer award in appreciation for your hard work, and in anticipation of your future efforts," concluded Norquist.
