IRS Picks Up the Phone Only “19 to 20 percent” of the Time

IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig testified to the Senate Finance Committee today. Rettig said agents are only picking up one in five taxpayer phone calls.

Rettig said: “We are currently running around 19 to 20 percent level of service.”

In a perhaps not unrelated statement, Rettig also noted that 53% of IRS agents work from home full time.
