House Republicans Promise to Restore Oversight After Dems’ Latest Abuse

Rather than investigate the abuses of the Biden Administration, Democrats on the House Oversight and Reform Committee released a report on Thursday criticizing the workplace culture of an NFL team.

House Democrats have abandoned their responsibility to provide proper congressional oversight of the federal government. Instead, they’ve used their control of the Oversight Committee to harass and intimidate private businesses and perceived political foes.

It’s been 548 days since the private tax returns of thousands of Americans spanning a 15-year period were released by the progressive news organization ProPublica. Democrats have held precisely zero hearings investigating the source of the illegal theft from the IRS.

Similarly, Democrats have failed to provide answers as to why the IRS destroyed 30 million active taxpayer documents or hold any hearings on the matter.

Instead, Democrats on the Oversight Committee chose to misuse taxpayer resources to release a report of a 14-month “investigation” into the alleged “toxic work culture” of the Washington Commanders football team before Republicans take back the House in January.

The House Oversight Committee should not be used to publicly attack a private company with no connection to the federal government. Dan Snyder, the owner of the Washington Commanders, is a longstanding target of the political left for his past resistance to changing the name of Washington’s football team along with his past contributions to Republican candidates.

Elected lawmakers should not use their position on powerful committees to intimidate private businesses and individuals they disagree with.

House Committee on Oversight and Reform Ranking Member James Comer (R-Ky.), who will serve as Chairman of the Oversight Committee in the 118th Congress, issued the following statement in response to the report’s release:

““From the beginning, Committee Democrats’ so-called ‘investigation’ into the Washington Commanders only served to deliberately target a private organization, gain cheap headlines, and ignore any information that did not align with their predetermined narrative...The primary mission of the House Oversight and Reform Committee is to root out waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in the federal government. In the 118th Congress, Oversight Republicans will end this charade, return the Committee to its primary responsibilities, and conduct meaningful oversight over the Biden Administration’s self-inflicted crises that are harming the American people.”

House Republicans have promised a return of meaningful oversight of the federal government when they assume control of Congress in January.

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy has released a detailed outline promising strict oversight and investigations into IRS politicization and abuse, the origins of the Coronavirus, and President Biden’s handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

These are all subjects far more suited for congressional oversight than the workplace culture of an NFL team.
