Rep. Damron: Sales Tax Holiday Essential

WASHINGTON – Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) supports the efforts of Kentucky Representative Robert Damron (D-39) to institute a permanent sales tax holiday in Kentucky. Permanent sales tax holidays spur production and consumption, benefit all taxpayers, and help retailers in rural, urban, and suburban areas alike.

A sales tax holiday will soften the effect of H.B. 825 tax increases for business owners, and aid low-income taxpayers in buying computers and back-to-school products.

H.B. 825 was voted out of the House Committee on Appropriations and Revenue today, without a sales tax holiday attached.

"All lawmakers and taxpayers in Kentucky should embrace the idea of a sales tax holiday," said Grover Norquist, President of ATR. "Kentucky businesses will be hard hit by the tax increases in H.B. 825, and a sales tax holiday will help soften the blow. The sales tax holiday will help low-income taxpayers buy items like computers and back-to-school items for their children. I encourage all lawmakers in Kentucky to support this important tax relief proposal."
