After a year and half of broken promises on economic recovery, the latest job numbers show that the trillion dollar debt and spending “stimulus” plan, piled on top of higher discretionary spending, Obamacare, and massive government intrusion into the private sector have done nothing to encourage economic growth. Congress, which has racked up trillions in new debt experimenting in government “stimulus,” has demonstrated absolutely the failures of a big government agenda:

  • Americans were threatened that absent a nearly trillion dollar infusion of tax dollars into the economy under the guise of “stimulus,” unemployment would crest at 8 percent. Today marks the seventeenth consecutive month unemployment has lingered above 9 percent.
  • Obamacare, which has already caused million-dollar writedowns for private companies who will be unable to afford its expensive mandates, was purportedly supposed to create 4 million jobs, 400,000 of which were to appear “almost immediately,” according to Speaker Pelosi
  • Measures that have proven to stagnate growth by subsidizing unemployment, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps) are at an all-time high
  • Despite the fact that the economy has lost over 3 million jobs since the Obama administration came into office, the President and his colleagues in Congress continue to promote recovery via government “stimulus,” most recently in a proposal to funnel $50 billion to wasteful and unnecessary transportation projects

“These latest job numbers demonstrate why 68 percent of Americans think the “stimulus” was a total waste, while 90 percent think the economy is doing poorly,”said Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist. “This report is an edifying illustration of our tone-deaf Congress.  Rather than adopt pro-growth policies, like preventing the largest tax hike in history in January, members continue to reiterate failed “stimulus” policies, close their eyes and hope for the best. This blind governance-by-repetition shows the only jobs Congress cares about is their own.”
