Members Should Honor Their Pledges

WASHINGTON – Today Americans for Tax Reform criticized the Democrat alternative to the Small Business Tax Fairness Act of 2000 as nothing more than tax increases on estates, corporate income, and capital gains.

Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, issued the following statement on the Democrat Small Business Tax Fairness Act of 2000 alternative:

"This Democrat alternative to the Small Business Tax Fairness Act will increase the death tax, hurting small businesses and family-owned farms.

"It would also eliminate tax credits that allow small investors to participate in corporate earnings, a direct assault on the growing investor class.

"Members of Congress who signed our Taxpayer Protection Pledge saying they will oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase corporate or individual income taxes would be in direct violation of their signed pledge if they vote for the Democrat alternative to the Small Business Tax Fairness Act."
