Brian Murphy, a Republican running for Governor in Maryland, has signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). The Pledge is a commitment to the taxpayers of Maryland to “oppose and veto any and all efforts to increase taxes.”
To date, 13 state senators and 23 members of the Maryland House of Delegates have signed the Pledge. Additionally, nine governors and over 1,100 state legislators across the country have signed the Pledge.
“Maryland residents need leaders committed to fiscal responsibility andeconomic policies that support private sector-led economic growth and job creation. Tax increases run counter to that goal, and I commend Brian Murphy for affirming his commitment to the taxpayers of Maryland as a candidate for Governor,” said Grover Norquist, president of ATR.
“By signing the Pledge, Brian presents a clear to Gov. O'Malley. Maryland taxpayers simply cannot afford to continue on the state’s current path.”
“I applaud Brian for his leadership and dedication to the ideals of limited government, as well as for putting the interest of the people ahead of the government’s desire for endless spending,” added Norquist.“I strongly encourage every candidate in Maryland and in elected offices throughout the country to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.”
