Today, Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform, released the following statement endorsing Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) for Speaker of the House:
“Taxpayers being crushed by the overspending and inflation of the Biden economy need a united Republican caucus to fight for them. Conservative voters deserve a proven leader who can produce real policy wins.
For decades, Steve Scalise has fought and delivered for taxpayers. As a member of the Louisiana Legislature, Scalise not only signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, but organized and led the state’s Taxpayer Protection Caucus. Since he set foot in Washington, Scalise has fought for American taxpayers every single day of his Congressional career. Before the Green New Deal existed, Scalise was ahead of the curve, successfully leading the charge to kill the Left’s carbon tax. As Majority Whip, Scalise marshalled the votes needed to pass the most significant tax cut package since the Reagan Administration.
Without Congressional action, the 2017 Republican tax cuts will expire next Congress, leaving nearly every taxpayer with an automatic tax hike.
