In a letter to Congressman Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.), Americans for Tax Reform president Grover Norquist endorses a bill to repeal the harmful tanning tax – an important step toward complete repeal of Obamacare altogether. The letter states:

I am writing in support of H.R. 2092, which will repeal the indiscriminate 10 percent tax on tanning services. This is one of twenty new or increased taxes in the so-called Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and it must be repealed. On behalf of Americans for Tax Reform, I call on all members of Congress to vote in favor of your legislation.

In a desperate attempt to pay for an unprecedented explosion in the size and scope of government, Obamacare hits families and small businesses with enormous tax increases that will kill jobs and stunt economic growth. The tanning tax is a blatant example of the federal government hunting down a political scapegoat in order to raise revenue for a fiscally unsustainable healthcare overhaul. Thanks to Obamacare, entrepreneurs are already suffering, with thousands of jobs lost and hundreds of businesses closed.

Let us not forget President Obama’s pledge that families making less than $250,000 would not see “any form of tax increase.” Not only does the tanning tax violate the president’s promise, it also illustrates a dangerous nanny-state mentality where the central government attempts to alter its citizens’ habits through burdensome taxes and regulations.

As we work to completely repeal Obamacare, key provisions of the law must be defunded. This is why H.R. 2092 is so critical. It will protect middle-class families and small businesses from footing the bill for the government’s reckless healthcare takeover. Americans for Tax Reform stands with this pro-taxpayer initiative.
