AMERICANS FOR TAX REFORM PRAISES SENATOR MCCAIN FOR HIS
“FIVE REQUIREMENTS” ON THE FINANCE PACKAGE

Five non-negotiables mean that taxpayers have a seat at the table

WASHINGTON, DC—Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist today praised Senator John McCain (R-AZ) for his “five requirements” message that he gave to finance package negotiators.

McCain’s five requirements are: greater accountability; recovery of taxpayer dollars; transparency; no earmarks; and, no golden parachutes for Wall Street CEOs.

“Throughout this whole negotiating process, there has been one interest group not at the table—taxpayers,” said Norquist.  “McCain’s ‘five requirements’ ensures that taxpayers will have a voice.”

Throughout the weekend, officials from Congress and the Executive Branch will continue to hammer out details of a plan to use taxpayer resources to get bad debts off company balance sheets.

“If people were talking behind closed doors about spending your money, you’d want to have someone in the room fighting for your interests,” continued Norquist.  “For taxpayers, Senator McCain is the man we have in that room."
