Americans for Tax Reform is investing $318,560 for television ads in Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District race. Democrat incumbent Ben Chandler faces a 2010 rematch with Republican Andy Barr.

The ad began airing October 18th and will run through Election Day in the Lexington media market, which covers the 6th District.

The ad is entitled “Bankrupt” and can be seen below:

It explains that instead of fighting for Kentucky taxpayers, Democrat Ben Chandler broke his personal commitment to oppose higher taxes and voted for President Obama’s energy tax hike scheme.

The energy tax could have cost Kentucky 35,000 jobs and driven up energy costs by $1,000 per year.

Although Ben Chandler initially signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge to oppose higher taxes, he has broken that commitment to Kentucky taxpayers numerous times.

“Ben Chandler made a written promise to Kentucky taxpayers to oppose higher taxes that he never had any intention of keeping. He’s the kind of guy who says things to get elected and cannot be trusted by taxpayers,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. “If voters want a Congressman who breaks his promises by joining the ranks of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and President Obama on higher energy taxes, Ben Chandler is their guy. If, however, voters are concerned about Washington’s tax and spend agenda, Chandler cannot be trusted back in the nation’s capital.”
