AL-05 Candidate Chris Lewis Signs Taxpayer Protection Pledge

Americans for Tax Reform congratulates Mr. Chris Lewis for signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge. By signing the Pledge, he has made a written commitment to oppose all tax increases and help Alabamans keep more of their hard-earned money. Lewis is running in a Republican primary for Alabama’s 5th congressional district seat, currently held by Rep. Mo Brooks. Brooks has signed and kept the Pledge as an elected official.

“I want to congratulate Chris Lewis for signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, and in doing so, affirming his commitment to protect taxpayers in Alabama’s 5th congressional district,” said Grover Norquist, president of ATR.

Candidates running for office often say they will not raise taxes, but tend to turn their backs on the taxpayer once elected. As Pledge signers, candidates and incumbents make a written commitment to oppose any and all tax increases.

“By signing the Pledge, Chris demonstrates that he will fight for all Alabamans in Congress by working to keep their taxes low and grow the U.S. economy at historic rates. I challenge all candidates running in Alabama’s 5th district to make this important commitment to taxpayers by signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge today,” continued Norquist.

The Pledge is offered to every candidate for state and federal office and to all incumbents. Nearly 1,400 elected officials, from state representatives to governors and US Senators, have signed the Pledge.

Lewis is a retired U.S. Naval Officer, who served multiple tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

ATR will continue to follow this race closely and will provide additional updates as more candidates sign the Pledge.
