Jake McCalmon, a candidate running to represent House District 63 in the Tennessee General Assembly, signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge this week. By signing the Pledge, sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform, Jake McCalmon has made a written commitment to Tennessee taxpayers that, if elected to office, he will oppose and vote against legislation that would impose a net tax hike.
Americans for Tax Reform offers the Pledge to all candidates for state and federal office. By signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, Mr. McCalmon joins Governor Bill Lee and fourteen other incumbent governors, along with over 1,000 state legislators who have also signed the Pledge.
“I want to thank and congratulate Jake McCalmon for taking the Taxpayer Protection Pledge,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. “By signing the Pledge, Mr. McCalmon signals to voters that he recognizes that conservative governance has been key to Tennessee economic success and that, if elected, he will work to ensure that Tennessee remains a low-tax state moving forward.”
Tennessee’s 63 House District is located to the south of Nashville and includes the town of Franklin. While other candidates have filed to run for House District 63, Jake McCalmon is the first to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge. The Taxpayer Protection Pledge is a public, written commitment by elected officials or candidates to the taxpayers of his or her state or district to oppose and vote against any net tax increase. All candidates for federal and state office have been offered the Pledge each election cycle since 1986.
