Taxpayer Group Denounces EPA Ruling to Regulate the Air We Breathe

Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized its “endangerment finding” stating that Carbon Dioxide is a pollutant that is harmful to public health. This finding will allow the EPA to expand their power to regulate vehicle emissions, power plants, and factories.

Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform, denounced this finding today and issued the following statement:

This ruling is a scary precursor to the way Obama plans to use his regulators if Congress doesn’t play nice. He is bypassing the authority of and undermining elected officials in Congress. If Reid and Pelosi can’t pass a national climate tax because of widespread opposition, Obama will use the EPA. If Specter can’t convince fellow Democrats to take away workers’ secret ballot voting rights when deciding on unionization, Obama will use the NLRB [National Labor Relations Board]. This decision shows that the Executive branch has complete disregard for the will of the people and the foundations of our Republic. The American people know this and have told their Representatives that they don’t want more regulations on their life. The Obama Administration is grabbing power at a staggering rate. If the EPA can regulate the air we breathe, what can’t they regulate?”

didn't the supreme court rule (during the bush administration) that EPA already had the authority to regulate greenhouse gases? didn't congress overwhelmingly pass the clean air act? if the EPA isn't supposed to "regulate the air we breathe" how could they possibly ever impact clean air? (wouldn't we all still be breathing lead from leaded gas still?)

Jeff, you're not suppose to think about it. This is a conservative site. You're suppose to take what they say and believe it. Americans know they don't deserve clean air, and evil big government should regulate the air we breathe via some crap called the Clean Air Act. Air is a common good and we should be able to pump as much sulfer and uranium into the atmosphere as we want because it would cost more to a few businesses if they had to not pollute a common good for free. Also, whose the government to tell me how much toxic waste I can dump into the oceans or how much fly ash I can bury a town under? They should stick to their lot in life... giving rich people more money.

It's funny that you both mentioned things like lead, sulfur, and uranium (not really sure how you get a heavy metal like that into the air, but I'll take your word for it) but neither of you said anything about CO2 being a pollutant. Because the EPA just ruled that the stuff you exhale and that plants inhale is just as bad as lead, sulfur, and uranium. It's also funny that you think everyone is too stupid to protect their own environment unless they are in the government. Why are politicians the only ones wise and benevolent enough to save us? Last I checked politicians are usually pretty far up on the corruption list, but you act like they are angles sent from God to save us from ourselves.
