ATR defeats Bob Riley's Tax Increase Referendum

Alabama voters went to the polls on September 9th and resoundingly disapproved a $1.2 billion per year tax hike pushed by Gov. Bob Riley (R).

The tax increase would have devastated the state's economy without addressing Alabama's real problem - profligate spending.

ATR was active in the state of Alabama, educating the voters about the harms of the tax plan, and offering alternatives for addressing the state's budget problems.

The lesson: a Republican governor who tries to raise taxes is a failed Republican governor.
