In Pennsylvania’s 9th Congressional District, Incumbent Republican Rep. Bill Shuster is facing a pair of primary challengers. According to Politics1, the list of declared candidates includes Shuster, retired Coast Guard Captain Art Halvorson, and U.S. Army veteran Travis Schooley. Each of the three candidates have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

The Cook Political Report rates Pennsylvania’s 9th Congressional District as the most conservative in the state, with a Partisan Voter Index of “R+14.” Without any declared candidates from other parties, the race falls in the “Solid Republican” column. Mitt Romney carried the district with 63 percent of the vote in November.

The primary date is scheduled for May 20. When it comes time to vote, Quaker State taxpayers will know which candidates are committed to opposing higher taxes in Washington.
