Illinois’ 10th Congressional District, which is currently held by Republican Congressman Mark Kirk, has just officially become a Pledge Signer’s contest. Republican Dick Green signed the ATR Taxpayer Protection Pledge, the first candidate in the race to do so.

Green is aiming to replace pledge signer, and now Illinois Senate candidate Mark Kirk. According to the Cook Political Report, the district has a PVI of D +6; but the Republican he’s looking to replace has been there since 2001, which has made the race for IL-10 a “toss up” according to Cook.

With his signing of the pledge, Mr. Green becomes the first candidate to let the taxpayers in Illinois’ 10th Congressional district know that he is committed to fighting against increased government spending that leaves the bill on the doorsteps of America’s middle-class. Mr. Green is the only pledge signer that is in the race, but we here at ATR encourage all candidates in the Illinois-10 contest, as well as all candidates for Federal office to follow suit and promise the taxpayers that they will do their part in making sure that someone is Congress is looking out for them.

Dick Green (R-Ill.) signs the Taxpayer Protection Pledge
Congressional candidate promises to protect taxpayers’ wallets

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Dick Green, a Republican running in Illinois’ 10th Congressional district, recently signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). The Pledge commits signers to “oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses … and oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.”

ATR has offered the Pledge to all candidates for federal office since 1987. To date, 34 U.S. senators and 172 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have signed the Pledge. Additionally, seven Governors and over 1,100 state legislators have signed the Pledge.

“After the passage of the so-called “Stimulus Package” better known as the Pelosi-Obama-Reid Spending Give-Away, Americans are desperately searching for candidates and politicians that will protect their livelihoods and put their wallets ahead of the federal government’s coffers ,” said Grover Norquist, president of ATR.

“By signing the Pledge, Dick Green demonstrates that he understands the problems of hard-working taxpayers nationwide, but especially the taxpayers in Illinois’ 10th Congressional district.”

“I challenge all candidates for federal office to make the same commitment to taxpayers by signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge today,” Norquist continued.
