Center for Fiscal Accountability Urges Support for Vitter Amendment to “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act”, May Rate Vote for Amendment

The Center for Fiscal Accountability urges all Senators to support Sen. David Vitter’s amendment # 179 to the “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.”

The amendment would strike numerous wasteful spending provisions from the bill the stimulative effect of which is more than questionable. Among the provisions the amendment would strike are funding for fish barriers, the Census Bureau and Amtrak, which has long served as a drain on taxpayer wallets and has failed to become self-sufficient in more than forty years of its existence.

Further, the amendment would remove Davis-Bacon prevailing wage requirements, which currently inflate construction costs by 9.91%, from the bill.

The Center for Fiscal Accountability will continue to oppose the massive spending package under the guise of “stimulus” in its entirety, but encourages members to support Sen. Vitter’s amendment to the “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.”

The Center for Fiscal Accountability MAY RATE a Vote for Sen. Vitter’s Amendment in our annual Congressional ratings.

NOTE THAT CFA WILL-DOUBLE RATE A VOTE AGAINST THE “AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT OF 2009” AT FINAL PASSAGE.
