Pelosi to Taxpayers: We Don't Want Your Input

One would think that after the public outcry over how the "stimulus" package was passed - rushed at lightening speed and with no transparency - lawmakers in Congress would have gotten the memo. They apparently did not, as we saw in the way the cap-and-trade bill passed through the house last Friday.

However, Speaker Pelosi seems to think there's nothing wrong with keeping taxpayers in the dark. When asked explicitly whether taxpayers would have an opportunity to fully scrutinize the health care reform bill before a vote this fall she refused to commit to posting the bill online for five days before calling a vote.
At her press briefing on Thursday, Pelosi was asked whether the health-care bill would be handled differently than the stimulus bill, which came up in February. The 1,071-page final text of that bill was posted on the House Appropriations Committee’s Web site late on a Thursday night and then voted on the next day.

“When the stimulus bill came out earlier this year, members and citizens had less than two days to review the final version that came out of the conference committee before it was voted on,” CNSNews.com asked Pelosi on Thursday. “Will you commit to giving Americans at least a week to review the full conference version of the health care bill before it is voted on? And also will you commit to submitting the final version to the CBO [Congressional Budget Office] so that they can report the cost to the public?”

Pelosi would not commit to giving the public a week to review the bill, and did not respond to the question of having the CBO report on the cost of the final bill.

“Well, we will abide by the regular order. You heard the question,” she said. “It was about having the health care bill out there a week in advance. We will have the regular order in terms of the appropriate amount of time, 48 hours in advance for amendments before you file the bill, another day before you can take up the bill.
Senate Majority Harry Reid has also refused to rule out a repeat of the "stimulus" when it comes to transparency - so be prepared for another round of votes on a bill nobody has read in full ...

Is anyone even remotely surprised by this? That woman is a moron and she will go down as the WORST SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE IN HISTORY!! Cindy Sheehan would even be better, if one can even comprehend.

Of course they don't want our comments. They know what the comments would be.

Next question: are we surprised by this, because I for one am not. I know plenty of democrats who are tired of Nancy Pelosi's so-called leadership.

I am so fed up with Nancy Pelosi and her corrupt actions -- when are the American people going to wake up and hold Congress accountable for their actions. I cannot believe this is the second bill that passed without being read --- isn't there an attorney out there to challenge the constitutionality of this?

Pelosi is one of the supreme socialist elite. Like all socialist eilists she knows what is best for everyone. Why in the world should the people whose money it is to start with have anything to say. Pelosi is making enemies at a record pace, calling the CIA liers is a bad career move, and sooner or later that score will be settled I suspect.

Arizona is trying to add samity to the health care bill That state is offering the voters an amendment that let the citizens opt out of any Federal Health Program. States Rights may be coming back. Barry Goldwater would have been proud.
>> Don Hamme Wednesday, July 1, 2009 10:42 AM

Don Hamme's comment about Arizona trying to pass an amendment to allow voters to opt out of Federal Health Care is a great idea, however, if the gov. funded option and taxes and fines drives private employers to drop their insurance, and private insurers to close their doors, the voters would be left with almost no other option but the federal health program. That is why all of us need to make our voices heard before this montrosity gets passed. I am attending an anti-health care rally at our Dem. senator's office tomorrow in Ft. Myers, FL.

To get these leaches out of office is simple. No matter who the are, vote every one out when their term expires. Elect no who has any political experience 5 years prior to their running. Hire lawyers to have all benefits of the current politicians canceled for any amount above $1200 dollars a month. If they get that done they get 50% of the first years savings.

The frightening part of Pelosi being Speaker, she's third in line to be President. God forbid this becomes necessary, but Americans we are going to have to be more educated on who and what we put in office. We've got to think about what they can do to our way of life. I'm afraid for America but mostly I'm afraid our children and grandchildren will not have the blessing of living in a free, wonderful country we grew up in and love.

I used to think that death and taxes were the negative force in life and that there had to be two positive forces to offset them. The positives became Change and Choice for me or the years. But the unbelieve has happened and the Socialist/Democrats has managed to turn the positives into negatives and in the scheme of life that means death and taxes have become the positive forces in the equation. And right now death doesn't look all that bad given the options available. Where did I get the positive and negative equation from? Why from life itself as in electric force + and -, or ying and yang, and just about anything there is in life. Day and night for example, right and wrong, etc., etc.
