Cost of Government Day (COGD)
[2005] [2004] [2003] [2002] [2001]

The Government Spending Burden

Federal Spending

Federal spending continues to be the single largest component of the total cost of government and has been the driving force leading to the substantial increase in the cost of government over the past seven years. In 2007, ATR projects federal spending will increase the burden on American taxpayers by half of one additional day, from 84 to 84.5 days.  The average American will need to work an additional 6 days out of the year to pay for federal spending compared to 2000.
