On Ronald Reagan’s 102nd Birthday, The Mt. Reagan Project formally submitted an application to the Nevada Board of Geographic Names to dedicate the 4,052-foot summit at the top of Frenchman Mountain – located between the Las Vegas valley to the west and the Lake Mead National Recreation area to the east – as “Mount Reagan.” According to the filing, the proposed Mount Reagan includes a hiking path and views of both the Lake Mead National Recreation area and the Las Vegas valley, including the well-known Strip.
The group is now seeking to gather enough petition signatures to show the support of Nevada residents and others across the country. The group will present these signatures along with the proposal to the Nevada Board of Geographic Names meeting in May.
“Ronald Reagan led America forward to defeat the threats to our prosperity of high taxes, inflation, and recession at home and a surging Soviet Empire abroad,” said Grover Norquist, Chairman of the Ronald Reagan Legacy Project. “He left America stronger, freer, and safer than the day he became President. Adding his name to the short list of great American presidents who have mountains named after them is an honor richly deserved.”
Currently, there are only 12 former American presidents who have mountains or peaks named after them in the United States.
