Legislators Feeling Pressure from Pledge in Florida
The Republican majority in Tallahassee is experiencing heartburn as they contemplate raising taxes. For a long time, their party has been one that has not been the party of increased taxation, but this session they are flirting with tax hikes. Their contemplation of the T-word is not going unnoticed, especially when it comes to the legislators that have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge. Both the Senate President and the Speaker of the House signed the Pledge. They ought to be feeling the heat, if they follow through they will be breaking their commitments to the taxpayers of Florida, their actions will be remembered. Read this article that appeared in the St. Petersburg Times discussing their commitment to the people.
In another case, the Levy County Republican Executive committee passed a resolution in opposition to tax increases, a county that the Florida Speaker represents portions of.
