The Associated Press stated that "No promise from President Barack Obama is more important to the wounded economy than his vow to save or create some 3.5 million jobs in two years".
Americans for Tax Reform has consistently argued that "all this talk about ‘jobs saved or created’ is bogus".Today, more evidence emerges of the intellectual bankrupcy of those who peddle claims of jobs saved or created.
The Associated Press reports Oregon, where lawmakers are spending $176 million to supplement the federal stimulus, Democrats are taking credit for a remarkable feat: creating 3,236 new jobs in the program's first three months. A rather impressive feat. Except for one small thing: these jobs lasted only one week. After that, those workers were effectively back unemployed.
Oregon Democrats defend their fuzzy-math by saying "This stimulus plan was intentionally designed for short-term projects...No one ever said these would be full-time jobs for months at a time."Steve Buckstein, a policy analyst for the Cascade Policy Institute, rightly points out the absurdity with such an argument, noting "For the price of Oregon's $176 million, lawmakers could have provided all 3 million state residents with a one-hour job paying about $60. By their definition, that's 3 million jobs Is anybody gonna buy that?"
White House claims of jobs 'saved and created' have been exposed as nothing but empty rhetoric, with even Bacack Obama's own Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers admitting the claim was effectivly a lie.
When when it comes to the stimulus package, transparency remains elusive, the goal posts have been moved, checks are sent to dead people, remote airports named after members of Congress receive yet another few millions in pork. In fact, billions of taxpayers dollars go to pork projects like $550,000 to build a skateboard park and renovate basketball and tennis courtsin Pawtucket, Rhode Island; $4,000,000 for the paving of a private jet parking lot in struggling Aspen, Colorado; and $11,400,000 for the National Zoo in Washington, DC., $1 billion for a power plant that may never work, and $1.15 million for installation of a new guard rail for the non-existent Optima Lake in Oklahoma. Senator Coburn's has put together a report detailing 100 examples of waste here.
Back on Feb. 9, Obama said “I think my initial measure of success is creating or saving 4 million jobs.” In the four full months since Obama signed the “stimulus” bill into law, Bureau of Labor Statistics data show that over two million jobs were lost. And taxpayers are left with the bill.
