Americans for Tax Reform congratulates FL-18 candidate Calvin Turnquest for signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge to oppose any and all income tax hikes. Turnquest is vying to replace Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-N.J.) in November.

Cook Political Report rates this a “Toss Up” race with a PVI of R+3 while the Rothenberg Political Report rates this race “Lean Democrat.” First-term incumbent Murphy defeated Allen West in 2012 (50.3%-49%) with high voter turnout.

Patrick Murphy’s voting record does not reflect his self-proclaimed status as a moderate. National Journal’s Vote Rating compiles the voting record of every member of Congress to determine how conservative or liberal they are. Murphy scored a 56.5, placing him within the Liberal camp.

GOP Voters will head to the polls on August 26 to choose their nominee to face-off against the winner of the Democrat primary on November 4.
