The Petition:

Representative Barrow,
I urge you to denounce Center Forward’s false claims about the Taxpayer Protection Pledge. The Pledge is a written and concrete promise to Georgia taxpayers to oppose higher taxes. It leaves ample room for the elimination of any number of special tax breaks so long as the overall level of taxation is not increased. Now is the time to stand with Georgia taxpayers by bringing honesty to the debate about the government overspending problem without raising taxes.
Political campaigns should be truthful. Recycled, blatantly false accusations have no place in the political process.

Background:

In Georgia’s 12th Congressional district, Democrat SuperPAC Center Forward is attacking Taxpayer Protection Pledge signer Lee Anderson for signing the Pledge to “never raise taxes.” They’re using claims that Factcheck.org, Politifact, and the Associated Press all rated as false during the last election cycle.

The ad borrows a page out of the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee’s playbook in accusing a Pledge signer of keeping “tax breaks for companies that ship out American jobs.”

The Taxpayer Protection Pledge states that a candidate will:

“ONE, oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses; and
TWO, oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.”

It is obvious why numerous, non-partisan organizations have labeled the claims against the Pledge signers as false.

FactCheck.org rated the attacks against the Pledge as “blatantly false.” They pointed out that the Pledge “leaves ample room for the elimination of any number of special tax breaks so long as the overall level of taxation is not increased. To claim that this ‘protects’ a particular provision is simply untrue.”

Politifact noted that the claim about the Pledge included a “spurious connection” — that requires a huge leap of logic, concluding that the claim is “False.”

When the attack was used during the last election cycle, the Associated Press labeled the false accusation as “one of the wildest claims of the 2010 campaign.”

Sign our Petition to urge Rep. Barrow to denounce the false claims made in this ad by Democrat SuperPAC Center Forward.
