Ken McIntyre of the Heritage Foundation published a post on their blog, The Foundry, about the coalition of conservative organizations, including Americans for Tax Reform, working to encourage Congress not to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank when its charter expires in late September.

The likeminded groups view the persuasive abilities of Hensarling, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, as necessary to what remains their uphill effort to close the federal agency. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturersand other big business interests have mounted a determined campaign to save the federal agency…

Heritage Action is part of the “End Ex-Im” coalition assembled this spring by the conservative advocacy group Americans for Prosperity. Other coalition members include Americans for Tax Reform, American Conservative Union, Citizens Against Government Waste, and the National Taxpayers Union. They gathered on Capitol Hill two weeks ago to denounce the Export-Import Bank.

David Mark of Politix wrote an article detailing the legislation proposed by Rep. Kevin Brady, with support from Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist, to repeal the federal estate tax.

Rep. Kevin Brady, vying to become chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee in early 2015, is pushing legislation to permanently repeal the federal estate tax. The Texas Republican and other critics contend it’s fundamentally unfair to tax those inheriting property, because it has already been subject to taxation. In many cases, inheritors are forced to sell families homes, businesses and other assets just to avoid the huge tax bill.

Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, is optimistic about chances of repeal.

Americans for Tax Reform Grassroots Campaigns Manager, Adam Radman, published a Letter to the Editor in The Post-Star, in response to their May 11 article, “No Room for Pledges in Politics.”

Contrary to a claim made by the editorial, the Taxpayer Protection Pledge is a commitment to New York taxpayers, not Americans for tax reform or Grover Norquist. By signing the pledge, Matt Doheny has learned from President Bush’s greatest mistake. The only way to reform government is to focus on spending, not raise taxes.

Taxpayers should be wary of any candidate, including Elise Stefanik, who is unwilling to put their opposition to tax hikes in writing. Democrats feverishly work to trick those politicians into compromising on tax hikes. This is not partisan politics, it’s reality. The pledge is a necessary and helpful tool to rein in out-of-control government spending.

Michelle Millhollon of The New Orleans Advocate ran an article illustrating the pushback against New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s budget, which includes an expensive package of tax increases for the city’s residents.

State Rep. Walt Leger III, D-New Orleans, blames Grover Norquist. Norquist leads Americans for Tax Reform, a politically powerful organization that opposes tax increases. Gov. Bobby Jindal is a disciple. New Orleans, on the other hand, is a Democratic stronghold.
