Jo
Ann Sprague, Candidate for Congress, Signs Pledge
Vows to oppose any and all tax increases
WASHINGTON, D.C. ---- State
Senator Jo Ann Sprague is running for the 9th Congressional District
in Massachusetts as an advocate of tax reform. Senator Sprague signed
the Taxpayer Protection Pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform
(ATR) on August 23, 2001.
By signing the pledge,
Sprague promises to "oppose any and all efforts to increase the
marginal tax rates for individuals and/or businesses," and to
"oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits,
unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates."
On her campaign website, Sprague states that she is "Working
hard to create new jobs, not new taxes."
"Her opponents' refusal
to sign the Pledge indicates their willingness to raise taxes,"
said Damon Ansell, Vice President for Policy at ATR. None of the other
candidates running for the 9th District seat have signed the Pledge.
"A fiscally responsible
candidate like State Senator Jo Anne Sprague demonstrates her strong
commitment to Massachusetts's taxpayers by signing the Taxpayer Protection
Pledge. I encourage other candidates for the 9th Congressional District
race to make the same strong statement of purpose on behalf of taxpayers,
committing themselves to limited government and greater freedom,"
added Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform.
Americans for Tax Reform is a non-partisan
