Taxpayer Alert!
Lawmakers Consider Raising Taxes
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) commends
Oregon lawmakers for holding the line on tax increases in
the 2002 special legislative sessions and strongly opposes
any renewed efforts to increase the excise tax on beer in
Oregon.
Voters soundly
rejected the Measure 28 tax increase in January. "Raising
taxes doesn't solve the real problem with the Oregon budget
- that of excessive spending," said Grover Norquist,
President of ATR. "Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski has
stated, 'I'm not going to ask the Legislature, and I'm not
going to ask the citizens of Oregon to raise taxes. We will
make do with what we have.' The Governor is right. The taxpayers
of Oregon deserve to keep more of their hard-earned income,"
concluded Norquist.
Additionally, the
following Oregon lawmakers signed the Taxpayer Protection
Pledge sponsored by ATR, thereby promising to "oppose
and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes:"
Senator
Jackie Winters (District 10)
Senator Steven Harper (District 28)
Representative Cliff Zauner (District 22)
Representative Tim Knopp (District 54)
Representative William Garrard (District 56)
Americans for Tax Reform is a non-partisan
