Taxpayers Beware: Tax Cuts Aren’t Permanent
Your money is not Mahoney’s Priority

Washington, DC—Florida’s 16th Congressional District race could cost taxpayers $1,669 a year, the amount they risk losing unless lawmakers make tax relief permanent.  And in this race the candidates-Joe Negron (R) and Tim Mahoney (D) make the option very clear.

“Tim Mahoney (D) has made it plain that he has other priorities before making tax relief permanent,” said Grover Norquist President of Americans for Tax Reform.  “Apparently Tim Mahoney doesn’t think you need $1,669 a year.”

In case you’re wondering what you’ll be missing, $1,669 can buy a lot: it’s a vacation for a family of four, a top of the line computer to send to college with your oldest child, the monthly mortgage on a new family home, and almost as much as a husband and wife will spend on childcare in one year.

In contrast, Mahoney’s opponent, Joe Negron, takes a strong stand on tax cuts.  Negron supports making tax cuts permanent like those in the 2003 Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act (JGTRRA) which resulted in more than 870,000 new jobs in Florida.

Without permanent tax relief the tax increase on average will be:

  • 115 million taxpayers –$1,716
  • 48 million married couples -  $2,726
  • 17 million seniors - $2,034
  • 26 million small business owners - $3,637

“If you are a married couple, single mom, senior, small business owner, or any other taxpayer, you will see an increase in your taxes without permanent tax relief,” continued Norquist, “and that isn’t Tim Mahoney’s priority.  It’s clear that Tim Mahoney is no friend to Florida taxpayers.”
