Pelosi Promises Tax Hikes If Elected Speaker
“Details will have to be worked out,” warns Pelosi
Washington- With the midterm elections still a month away and the outcome uncertain, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has made one thing clear: Tax increases are first on her agenda if she is elected Speaker of the House.
Outlining her “100-hour plan” in an Associated Press interview Thursday, Pelosi warned that if elected speaker, she will immediately move to scrap tax cuts in favor of restoring taxation levels to that of the Clinton era.” Details will have to be worked out, she emphasized ominously. “We must share the benefits of our wealth.”
Pelosi’s comments come on the heels of recent tax-increase calls by Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY), who said he “cannot think of one'' of President Bush's tax cuts that merit renewal. Rangel, first in line to chair the tax writing Ways and Means Committee, seems to be on board with Pelosi’s plan for higher taxes.
“The elections have yet to take place, but Nancy Pelosi can’t resist dreaming of higher taxes,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. “Pelosi’s dreams are a taxpayer’s nightmare.”
