When Voinovich Says “We”, He Doesn’t Mean “You”!
GOP Senator fails to remember he serves his constituents not the federal government

Washington, DC- Today Senator Voinovich (R-OH) voiced opposition to permanent repeal of the Death Tax. Senator Voinovich said, “We can't afford to lose a dime right now. What we ought to be doing is asking for a temporary tax increase to pay for the war.'' Rather than looking for a temporary tax increase, Senator Voinovich’s constituents should ask him to remember that full repeal of the Death Tax and spending restraint will provide the solutions he desires. Full and permanent repeal of the Death Tax will release an explosion of capital into the U.S. economy that will provide tens of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in revenue.

Congress has proven itself unreliable on the issue of “temporary” taxes. How long it has taken Congress to consider repealing the Federal Excise Tax? Congress temporarily imposed this, the Spanish-American War tax, over 100 years ago to pay for the war. Congress still has not repealed the tax.

“When Voinovich says ‘we,’ he doesn’t mean you and me.  When he says ‘We need more money’ he means the government,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. “This is the exact opposite of Ronald Reagan, who always referred to the government as ‘they’.  Even after eight years of living in the White House and riding Air Force One, the government was always referred to as ‘they.’ ”
