Supreme Court Fact of the Day
Judge Roberts earns highest rating from the American Bar Association

WASHINGTON — The American Bar Association (ABA) gave Judge Roberts its highest rating of “well qualified”. The ABA has rated Roberts four times. Both in 2001 and 2003 he was rated “well qualified” and in 1992 he was rated as qualified.

ABA’s committee was unanimous in their decision of giving Robert’s their highest seal for judicial qualifications. The 15 member committee’s process included reviewing opinions and legal briefs written by Roberts. The ABA has been evaluating lawyers nominated for the federal bench for more than 50 years, with the highest level of scrutiny placed upon Supreme Court nominees.

The ABA evaluates all nominees to the Supreme Court of the United States, circuit courts of appeals, district courts and the Court of International Trade. The Committee’s goal is to support and encourage the selection of the best-qualified persons for the federal judiciary.

The peer-review endorsement of Judge Roberts qualifications demonstrates that he will be an honest, strong and competent juror to the Supreme Court of the United States.

Americans for Tax Reform has called on the Senate to meet its constitutional obligations and ensure a speedy confirmation process with an up or down vote on all judicial nominees.
